October in Gra Mar Acres

I say it every year, but October in Gra Mar Acres really is my favorite time of year! We’ve always got so much going on and it’s full of opportunities to get out and meet your neighbors. And this year, we’re adding two NEW events to the list – a neighborhood yard sale and a Halloween decorating competition!

Neighborhood Yard Sale

To kick off the month of activity, we’re having a neighborhood yard sale on October 4th. This is the kind of sale where everyone can host their own yard sale on the same day to help drive up traffic and customers.

If you want to participate, simply send us your name, address, and the time you’d like to host your sale to [email protected] by September 28th. We’ll be sure to add you to the list of participating houses and put together a quick map that you can share out. We’ll also advertise it across neighborhood Facebook groups and more.

Halloween Decorating Competition

Next up, we’ll kick off the spooky, neighborhood vibes with our first annual Gra Mar Acres Spooktacular Spirit Award. Any home in the neighborhood decorated for Halloween that wishes to participate will have an opportunity to submit their house for consideration by Oct. 29th via this form (if you have problems with it, just text Allison at 334-791-5656). We’ll open voting for the best house from Oct 30-Nov.1. You can see the houses participating here.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winnners will receive gift cards to Pont Neuf (thanks Taylor & Mattie) and Strega (thanks Matt & Michelle)!

If you are a neighbor and business owner who’d like to donate an item or gift card for the prizes, please text Allison at 334-791-5656!

Porchfest 2025

Unfortunately, we are having to postpone Porchfest to the Spring.

Neighborhood Bonfire

On October 25th we are having a neighborhood bonfire at Shane & Jennifer’s house at 4440 Gra Mar. We’ll kick things off around sunset so bring some drinks and a chair and come meet your neighbors.

Halloween Trick-or-Treating

Each year, we create a “Trick-Or-Treating Map” complete with information like spookiness level and whether or not the houses will have alternative treats (think gluten free or nut free). You can be added to the map here! We’ve seen a big increase in the number of trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood since we’ve been doing this and I know my two kids greatly appreciate the participation.

If you live in a house that isn’t very walkable (like Saunders or Broadmoor), Bethel Nazarene Church is hosting trunk-or-treat on the 31st and always welcomes any neighbors to set up there as well. It will run from 6-8 and primarily be inside the hallways and gym.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all in October in Gra Mar Acres!
