It’s officially my favorite time of the year in Gra Mar Acres – October! There are so many fun opportunities to get out and meet your neighbors this time of year. Starting with Porchfest!
Porchfest 2026

October’s Porchfest is NEXT WEEKEND, October 17th! We’ll start gathering around 1:45 at 803 Lemont Dr., so bring a chair or blanket and join us for an afternoon of front porch music around the neighborhood. If you want to help out by providing snacks or drinks, shoot Allison a text at 334-791-5656.
Spooktacular Spirit Award
We are still accepting entries for the 2026 Spooktacular Spirit Awards! You can submit a photo of your Halloween decor here through Oct. 16th before opening up voting through Oct. 30th.

Neighborhood Trick or Treating
Each year, we create a “Trick-Or-Treating Map” complete with information like spookiness level and whether or not the houses will have alternative treats (think gluten free or nut free). You can be added to the map here! I’ll keep the map updated as we get submissions and you can find the Google Map here.
Even though we aren’t the biggest trick-or-treating neighborhood, I know my two kids greatly appreciate the participation and it helps keep Halloween a true community-based night. As the Mom of a young teenager, I appreciate knowing that he can hold on to childhood a little bit longer surrounded by neighbors who welcome him!
If you live in a house that isn’t very walkable (like Saunders or Broadmoor), Bethel Nazarene Church is hosting trunk-or-treat on the 31st at 5pm and always welcomes any neighbors to set up there as well. They’ll be in the parking lot unless the weather is bad (in which case they’ll set up inside and provide tables).
Neighborhood Yard Sale
We have enough interest, that we’ll definitely be hosting a Neighborhood Yard Sale on Nov. 7th. You can continue to add your information here if you want to participate and I’ll work on getting a flyer created and shared out to neighborhood Facebook groups to market the event.
Winter Neighborhood Meetings & 2027 Plans
We decided to take a break from neighborhood meetings during the holiday season and will kick things back off in 2027. We had several great 2027 event ideas shared at the last meeting including a chili cookoff, a disaster preparedness event, a grill and chill, and more. In the past, we’ve also held a holiday lights competition. I won’t be able to organize that one this year, but if anyone wants to help out, please text me (Allison) at 334-791-5656.
I’ll continue to share newsletters with any neighborhood updates so if you have and events you’d like to see over the holidays or in 2027, please feel free to reach out at [email protected]
Thanks neighbors,
Allison
